Court clears Naira Marley and others in Mohbad’s death case, two to face trial
A Magistrate Court has exonerated popular singer Naira Marley and three others from any involvement in the death of Afrobeats artist Mohbad.
Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje, who presided over the case, dismissed any claims linking Naira Marley, music promoter Sam Larry, Owodunni Ibrahim (Primeboy), and Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde, to the tragedy.
However, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has directed that Mohbad’s auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and his friend, Ayobami Sadiq, be prosecuted for reckless and negligent acts under Lagos State’s criminal laws.
Mohbad, born Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, was a rising Nigerian Afrobeats artist who tragically passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27.
His sudden death sparked widespread controversy and speculation, leading to protests and calls for a thorough investigation.
Initial reports suggested that Mohbad fell ill after receiving an injection from an auxiliary nurse to treat an ear infection.
However, his passing quickly raised suspicions, with many questioning the events leading up to it.
Videos surfaced showing Mohbad in distress in the days before his death, and allegations of bullying, threats, and assault from former associates, including Naira Marley and Sam Larry, fueled public outrage.
