Davido explains how collaboration with Omah lay came about

Award-winning Nigerian musician Davido has opened up about how his collaboration with Omah Lay on the track With You came to fruition. The song is one of the standout tracks on his fifth studio album, 5ive.

Davido recounted that the initial interaction with Omah Lay happened during a visit by American streamer Kai Cenat to Lagos.

“How Omah Lay and I got together was, Kai Cenat came to Nigeria and I was driving him to the club and then Omah Lay’s song comes up, and he was like, ‘Who is this?’” Davido explained.

He added, “I responded, ‘Oh! This is Omah Lay, he is hot.’ And then the next day, Omah Lay tweeted like, ‘Wow! Davido gave me a shoutout on a livestream, I thought he hated me.’ And I DMed him, ‘Why would you think I hate you? We’ve never met.’”

The conversation quickly led to an exchange of numbers, and the pair began working on music together.

“We eventually, exchanged numbers and we were going back-and-forth with music. We did about four songs and he chose With You as the one we would release,” Davido said.

This collaboration marks another notable partnership in Davido’s career, showcasing his knack for spotting and working with emerging talent in the Afrobeats scene.
