Davido shares why Ghana, South Africa can’t match Nigeria’s music impact yet
While chatting with The Breakfast Club, Davido didn’t just break down the evolution of Afrobeats — he also spoke about why Nigeria’s music industry keeps dominating compared to places like Ghana and South Africa.
When asked why Nigerian artists seem to lead globally, Davido smiled and said, “It’s just the kind of people we are. We’re everywhere. We’re in your face.”
He joked about Nigerians being bold, even throwing in a funny line about how Nigerians ask for your credit card with no shame!
Davido also admitted there’s a big presence factor. “Even here in New York, you’ll see Nigerians everywhere. That’s just how we are. We’re very aggressive when it comes to making things happen.”
Although he gave props to South African and Ghanaian artists, he pointed out that the numbers speak for themselves — most of the top global African artists are Nigerian.
But he also made it clear that he personally tries to collaborate and carry other African countries along, mentioning his hit record “Unavailable” with South African producer Musa Keys as an example.
Davido left no doubt — Nigeria’s dominance is a mix of talent, hustle, and that unmissable Nigerian spirit.
