Don’t let your looks limit you
Portia Gabor is using her personal journey to speak directly to people who struggle silently.
In a post on social media sighted by MyNewsGh, the broadcaster revealed how early teasing about her ears affected her self-image.
“I lacked self-confidence,” she shared. “I even prayed to God about it.”
For years, she tried to hide what made her different, believing it could block her chances in life.
“Yet, her experience later taught her a powerful lesson: insecurity does not define destiny.
Looking back, Portia says her breakthrough came when she least expected it, during her national service.
Encouraged by friends who enjoyed her mock news readings, she applied for a TV role despite her fears.
“I almost didn’t try,” she admitted. “I kept telling myself, ‘They will notice my ears.’”
After being invited to TV3, she discovered that her appearance had sparked interest, not rejection.
“At that moment, I realized God had a sense of humour,” she said. “What I thought was a weakness became my door.”
Beyond her personal success, Portia’s message now centers on healing and empowerment.
“Sometimes it’s not even about looks,” she explained. “It could be your past, your mistakes, or something you want to hide.”
She believes many people carry silent battles that affect their confidence.
“You are worth more than your physical appearance,” Portia emphasized.
“May nothing about you stop you from achieving your dreams.”
