Edem speaks on 2015 Artiste of the Year controversy, denies beef with Stonebwoy

Ghanaian musician Edem, born Denning Edem Hotor, has addressed lingering questions about his 2015 Artiste of the Year award and clarified that his statements at the time were not meant to discredit fellow musician Stonebwoy.

Speaking on Angel FM, Kumasi, Edem explained the context behind comments suggesting he deserved the award that year.

“The statement that I should have won was written by my page manager,” Edem said. “But the reason why I was reserved was that the statement was not against Stonebwoy, but it was against the award scheme. Even though my brother Stonebwoy won, so far as I was in that category, I deserved to win.”

Edem emphasised that his decision not to vote for himself reflected his belief in merit and authenticity in the music industry.

“The only thing I didn’t do that year was not to vote. I believe that if I truly deserve something, I should not be the one to buy airtime for people to vote for me. It should be genuinely gotten,” he added.

Through his clarification, Ayibge Edem has set the record straight and reinforced the importance of fairness in award processes, while also maintaining his respect for Stonebwoy.
