Election timing hurts economy – Bullgod tells EC

Artiste manager and entertainment pundit Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson, popularly known as Bullgod, has called on the Electoral Commission to rethink the timing of Ghana’s general elections.
During an interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning, Bullgod suggested moving the elections from December to an earlier month, such as November, arguing that the current schedule negatively impacts investment and economic activities.
“I think one of the things we need to consider is shifting the date for elections. There was a rumour somewhere last year that they were going to put it in November.
“So I think we can do November like the Americas or even do it before that. What stops us? It’s just a day,” he remarked.
Bullgod explained that elections in December coincide with the festive season, a period when businesses anticipate increased revenue. He believes the political atmosphere created by elections often dampens the economic potential of the month.
“The reason being that it affects investment. There’s a lot of money that comes in during that time,” he noted, emphasizing that economic activities and holiday spending could be better optimized without the distractions of election campaigns and polling.
He also pointed out the need for adaptability, suggesting that traditional practices should evolve to align with the changing times.
“For me, the constant things in life have changed. We can’t be stuck in our ways unless they look at the revenue December brings to us and say it’s negligible because that timing is some way,” Bullgod added.
This proposal aligns with earlier conversations about adjusting Ghana’s election date to improve governance efficiency.
In 2016, there were discussions about moving elections to November to allow more time for transition activities. However, logistical challenges stalled the implementation.
