For eight years I was overlooked by NPP

Music producer and sound engineer Fred Kyei Mensah says he sometimes feels saddened by how creatives like him were overlooked despite supporting the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking to George Qyaye on Joy Prime, Mensah, popularly known in the music space as Fredyma, said he expected more engagement from the party during its eight years in government.

“Sometimes I feel very sad about certain things,” he said in the interview monitored by MyNewsGh.

“I’m into politics and I supported my NPP people, but for eight years none of them, even when they were travelling, said ‘Fredyma, you’ve been part of the creative industry, come along.’”

According to him, creatives who have spent years building the industry could have been included in official trips and cultural engagements abroad.

He said such opportunities would have allowed them to help promote Ghana’s creative sector and discover new talents.

“You have somebody like me who can discover talents and showcase them,” he stated.

Mensah believes creatives have valuable ideas that can contribute to the growth of the sector if they are given the chance to participate in national initiatives.

Despite his disappointment, he said he continues to remain interested in political discussions and the development of the creative industry in Ghana.
