Forget profit, think about the purpose of the Cathedral
Bishop Sam Owusu has urged Christians and national leaders to shift their focus from financial concerns and consider the long-term significance of the National Cathedral.
“Sometimes, we need to forget about profit and think about the purpose,” he stated.
“The Western world builds things that may not bring profit but serve a purpose. Why can’t we do the same?”
He pointed out how churches play a crucial role beyond spirituality. “People criticize churches for collecting money, but look at what the church teaches—morality, life values, and discipline. Without the church, crime would be worse, families would be more broken, and society would lack guidance.”
Addressing those questioning the need for a physical place of worship, Bishop Owusu referenced biblical history.
“Yes, God lives in our hearts, but he always instructed his people to build places for worship. Moses was told to build, Solomon built, and even Jesus went to the synagogue. Why should our generation be different?”
He further argued that people spend enormous amounts on entertainment and luxury without questioning the cost, yet criticize church projects. “We waste money on alcohol, parties, and fashion without a second thought. Why is it an issue when money is spent on something for God?”
Bishop Owusu concluded with a call to action: “We need to complete what we started. It is not just a building; it is a legacy for future generations.”
