Ghana’s Highlife is known as Afrobeats internationally

AK Songstress known in private life as Akosua Kwakye, a songwriter and performer, has stated the difference between Afrobeats and Highlife.

Speaking about the similarities between Afrobeat and Highlife, AK Songstress said they are the same sound with different names across the world of music.

“Personally as far as me as an artiste is concerned Afrobeat and Highlife are the same sound,” she told Amansan Krakye the host.

She opined “Just that we as Ghanaians call ours Highlife but in the bigger market it is called Afrobeat.

“Afrobeat is an African sound and when you listen there are so many songs that fall under Afrobeat,” she revealed on Cape Coast’s Kastle FM.

AK Songstress ended on the Kastle Entertainment Show “Highlife falls under Afrobeat and then there are a couple of African beats and sounds that fall under Afrobeat”.
