Vida Essel-LampteyCelebrated Ghanaian contemporary gospel musician, Hermon Cyrus Kwesi Nhyira Oteng, better known as Cwesi Oteng has waded into ongoing discussion on government’s call for contribution from the general public to assist in the building of a national cathedral.
Reacting in a twitter post sighted by GhanaPlus.com on Tuesday, August 3, he said God does not need a cathedral but the country does.
According to him, most people lamenting over the call for support to build the cathedral were same persons who support the building of theaters and other social event centers.
“God does not need a Cathedral, Ghana Does. Most people complaining about The National Cathedral also support the building of theatre’s and social centers for events but not a cathedral which will sit over 5,000 people for events. God does not need a Cathedral, we do,” his twitter post reads.

Ghanaians to donate ₵100 towards building National Cathedral
The Minister of Finance, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta while presenting the mid-year budget review indicated that the board of trustees of the cathedral will on August 12 launch the ‘GHS 100 a month club’ initiative to appeal for donations from Ghanaians towards the construction of the national cathedral, a promise made by the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the 2016 electioneering year.
The statement had however been greeted with so much displeasure from the Ghanaian public, most of whom were of the opinion that the country does not need a national cathedral since it had many urgent things to channel it resources.
