Guru lists five legacy achievements UG will remember him for
The former Students’ Representative Council (SRC) President of the University of Ghana, Maradona Yeboah Adjei, widely known as Guru, has outlined five major achievements he believes will cement his legacy as one of the most impactful student leaders in the institution’s history. Speaking confidently about his tenure as the 67th SRC President, he described his administration as “record-setting and genuinely transformative.”
Guru said that one of his proudest accomplishments was his intervention during the severe water crisis that hit the campus.
According to him, “When the water situation became unbearable, I knew I had to act. I drilled two boreholes for two hostels so students wouldn’t suffer. It was a crisis, and leaders show up in crisis.”
He also highlighted his efforts to improve health access on campus by establishing sick bays across several halls. “Students needed first-aid and emergency support closer to where they live. So I made sure sick bays were created to give them immediate help when it mattered most,” he said.
Guru further touched on what he describes as one of the most unprecedented outcomes during his leadership, the intervention in the hall fee increment. He recalled how management increased the fees from GHS 2,000 to GHS 3,000, prompting him to take action.
“I couldn’t sit and watch students be overburdened. I wrote petitions, I followed up, and I pushed the matter up to the Ministry of Education. Thanks to Hon. Haruna Iddrisu’s intervention, the fee was reduced by 25%. This had never happened before,” he emphasized.
His fifth legacy project is the introduction of traffic lights onto the University of Ghana campus to regulate vehicular movement and protect students. Guru explained, “The campus has grown, traffic has increased, and students were at risk. So I took the step to initiate the installation of traffic lights. It was necessary for safety.”
Reflecting on his tenure, Guru concluded with confidence: “Legon will remember these achievements because they were done genuinely for the ordinary student. I came to serve, and I left my mark.”
