Guru NKZ weeps over Legon wahala
Ghanaian musician and current SRC President of the University of Ghana, Legon, Guru, went live on TikTok a few hours ago to address the turbulence that has marked his tenure as the leader of the premier university.
During the session, Guru focused on clearing misconceptions about studying at UG, particularly the stereotype that students spend all their time partying at the expense of academics.
“It’s never true that UG students are only interested in partying,” he said. “Students here are serious. They invest so much time into learning, yet most still fail miserably.”
He shared from personal experience, revealing that he has failed some courses despite putting in the hard work. “I’ve failed some of my courses myself. So the idea that we just have fun and pass is completely false,” he explained.
Guru added that the situation can make students question why they even came to the university. “Sometimes the struggle is so real that some students end up deferring their courses,” he said.
He went on to discuss the challenges some students face despite their efforts. “Some learn so hard yet they can’t pass their exams. It even makes some of them think they’ve been bewitched by their families. There are still people resitting exams and not making headway.”
On a personal note, Guru admitted the pressure nearly forced him to defer his own course. “I nearly deferred because I couldn’t manage the increasing demands of being a student and everything else at the same time,” he revealed.
