He kicked me off the show, but we respected each other

While listeners experienced constant friction on air, Socrate Safo says his real relationship with Kwasi Aboagye was grounded in mutual respect.

In his Facebook post following Aboagye’s resignation sighted by MyNewsGh, the filmmaker and entertainment pundit stressed that the heated exchanges on Entertainment Review did not reflect their off-air dynamic.

“Behind the scenes, when the red light was off, a different reality existed,” Safo wrote. “We consulted each other, acknowledged each other’s strengths, and held mutual regard.”

He referred to the broadcaster as “Mr Aboagye,” noting that even moments of professional disagreement never erased personal respect.

According to Safo, the public persona was performance-driven, while the private relationship remained cordial and collaborative.

Safo also credited Aboagye with unmatched skill in sustaining entertainment conversations in Ghana, particularly around the Ghana Music Awards.

“If there is one man in Ghana who understands how to sustain public interest, then any list of great broadcasters that omits Akwesi Aboagye is incomplete,” he stated.

He said Aboagye kept award-season conversations alive from nominations through post-event controversies, ensuring constant engagement when other platforms fell silent.
