I am the Chosen One – King Promise’s first speech after historic TGMA Win

Ghanaian Afrobeats star King Promise has etched his name into the history books after winning Artiste of the Year at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) — his first-ever time taking home the most prestigious honour in Ghanaian music.
Despite entering the music scene years ago with strong promise (pun intended), the journey to this peak has been one of persistence and belief.
This year, the singer-songwriter earned 10 nominations, including nods for Album/EP of the Year and Telecel Most Popular Song, but it was the biggest prize of the night that crowned his climb to the top.
In a heartfelt acceptance speech that resonated deeply with fans and aspiring creatives alike, King Promise reflected on how his journey began with a disappointment that nearly broke him.
“If any young person is watching me right now who has a dream, use me as an example of resilience.
“My first year when I broke out on the scene, I had seven nominations and I left with zero,” he said.
But instead of quitting, he chose to grind harder.
“While some people laughed, I just worked harder because I believe in God’s timing. Today, I am the chosen one.”
For years, King Promise’s consistent output, chart-topping tracks, and charismatic presence made him a fan favourite.
However, despite being nominated for the Artiste of the Year award before — most notably in 2024 when Stonebwoy took home the crown — it wasn’t until this year’s ceremony, held at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre, that he finally ascended to the throne.
