I did not invite Tracy Shay on stage

Ghanaian singer Sista Afia has addressed claims that she invited Wendy Shay’s protégé, Tracy Shay, onto the stage during her recent concert.

“My attention has been drawn to a number of social media stories, videos, and write-ups suggesting that I personally invited the young lady, Tracy Shay, onto the stage during my concert,” she said in a social media post sighted by MyNewsGh.

“I wish to clearly state that I have no knowledge of how or when she got onto the stage, and I did not personally invite her to do so.”

The statement comes after a video of Tracy Shay performing on stage went viral. In the clip, she asked fans, including adults, to stand during her performance, which attracted criticism online.

Wendy Shay’s mother also addressed the incident, noting the importance of communication and respect for the “Shay” brand. “Some of you believe that the child’s mother has every right to allow her daughter to perform on any stage she wants, and that is true. However, it would not have been wrong if she had informed her godmother about the show,” she said.

She added, “So long as she has the Shay brand attached to her name, it should remind her that Wendy Shay worked hard to build that brand. It would not have cost her anything to inform Wendy Shay. At least she could have coached her on what to do on stage.”

She also highlighted the impact on mentorship, saying, “Those of you saying the child can do anything she wants, I want to tell you that this is the reason why most people refuse to help others.”

Sista Afia said her main focus remains on her career milestone. “At this moment, my main focus is on the overall success of my 10th Anniversary Celebration in the music industry, which was a significant milestone for my career.

“I am currently holding a series of meetings with my management and team to review all aspects of the event. A detailed response on this matter will be issued at the appropriate time.”
