I did not mean it that way— Shatta Wale issues apology to Bulldog
Dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, has officially retracted previous statements he made implicating Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson, also known as Bulldog, in the 2014 murder of Fennec Okyere.
In a signed letter dated April 30, 2025, the musician acknowledged that his earlier publications on social media had been misinterpreted and caused significant pain to Mr. Hanson and others.
“The publications included a statement that I have now come to know was generally misunderstood or misconstrued as Mr. Hanson’s confessions to me that he had a hand in the murder of Fennec Okyere (alias FENICKS),” he stated.
Shatta Wale went on to clarify that his comments were not intended to suggest guilt on Bulldog’s part.
“I wish to retract each of the statements in the said series of publications, as I did not mean to say that Mr. Hanson had a hand in the murder of FENNEC OKYERE.”
Beyond the murder allegation, the letter also addressed other damaging claims.
“The publications also included statements that imputed immorality or improper social behaviour to Mr. Hanson and other highly placed public figures,” Shatta Wale wrote, expressing regret for any harm caused.
“I also wish to apologise to Mr. Hanson and all the persons whom my publications of the November 2, 2022, have caused pain, agony, anguish, shame, ridicule, or hatred.”
