I don’t regret ‘Mia me dokono’ line
Rapper Medikal says his artistic process is rooted in spontaneity, raw talent and a deep passion for rap.
He emphasised that talent, not marketing, is the primary driver of his success.
“I’ll say more of talent,” he explained on Joy Prime to Andy Dosty in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh. “Without the talent, marketing won’t do anything. If you get the talent, it’s talent first.”
Medikal disclosed that he rarely writes his lyrics down. “I don’t like to pen stuff down because it doesn’t sound authentic. It needs to come out from you.” He added that he prefers the “rawness” of expression and does not regret any line he has released.
Addressing online trolls who mock some of his punchlines, including the widely discussed “Mea me dokono mea mehono” line, he remained unapologetic. “I actually don’t regret it. That’s one of my hardest lines,” he insisted.
He argued that the public fixation on those lines is evidence of affection disguised as criticism.
“When they love something so much, they troll it. If it’s stuck in your mind, then you love it.”
On his hit song ‘Too Risky’, Medikal said he had always recorded Afrobeat and melodic tracks but did not initially put them out.
He dismissed claims that the simplified lyrics meant he had “gone soft.” “Rap is art. It’s meant to entertain people, not to be debated. When it’s commercial, you don’t have to go extra like that.”
He further stated that he is still growing in the industry. “I’m getting there. I’m not successful yet. I still have a lot of loopholes to fill. I’m learning.”
