I had to live to tell the story

After a short health-related break, ace broadcaster Johnnie Hughes has returned to the airwaves, expressing gratitude to friends, family, colleagues, and medical professionals who supported him during his recovery.

Opening Monday’s Johnnie’s Bite, Hughes began with a powerful declaration of faith:

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?… Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil…”

He then humorously acknowledged how some listeners perceive his sharp commentary style:

“Some people say when I speak, they even panic… Papa fun! Figuratively, he bites as hard as he can,” a colleague once joked.

Johnnie confirmed that he had to briefly step away to prioritize his health, but he’s now back in full form.

“I had to go and hide and recuperate properly. Health first. I need to live to tell the story — not become the story,” he said.

He went on to thank Media General’s management, his colleagues on the Sunrise Morning Show, and the medical team that treated him.

“Special thanks to doctors Sakina and Brocke and all the nurses… I appreciate you all.”

Concluding, Hughes said he returns with “renewed energy” and is more determined than ever to use his platform to speak truth and advocate for accountability.
