I lost 10 cars and my studio in the June 3 disaster — Fred Kyei Mensah
Renowned sound engineer and music producer Fred Kyei Mensah has revisited the night of June 3, 2015, a day he describes as the lowest point of his life.
Fred recalled how he narrowly escaped death after the twin flood and fire disaster at Circle, Accra, which destroyed his studio and equipment worth thousands of cedis.
“I lost everything I had,” he said Speaking to Kafui Dei monitored by MyNewsGh. “Ten cars, three buses full of live band instruments, my school certificates, and even my brother-in-law, he died that night.”
He explained that he had planned to go to his studio that evening but had a strong spiritual prompting to stay home.
“Something told me not to go. I just heard ‘don’t go,’ and I obeyed,” Fred revealed. “If I had gone, I would’ve died. When I got the call that my studio was gone, I was in shock. In the morning, there were dead bodies everywhere.”
Fred said that for three years after the disaster, he was housed and supported by Bishop Daniel Obinim, popularly known as Angel Obinim.
“Angel housed me, fed me, and paid my son’s school fees for three years. People can say what they want, but that man saved me when I had nothing,” he said.
