I used to chop ashawo – Gospel minister Yaw Siki reflects on his wild past
Former Ghanaian hiplife artiste turned gospel minister, Yaw Siki, is no stranger to transformation, but few expected the depth of his recent confession.
In a raw and honest interview with media personality DrPounds on Pounds TV, Yaw Siki peeled back the layers of his past, revealing a chaotic lifestyle defined by sex addiction, substance abuse, and spiritual emptiness before finding purpose through faith.
“I used to chop ashawo and I was addicted to porno,” he admitted bluntly, shocking many with the candour of his words. According to him, his obsession with adult content quickly spiraled into chronic masturbation — a habit he linked directly to his failed attempts at getting women to sleep with him.
“At a point, I wanted to sleep with girls but I wasn’t getting them like that, and that’s what led me to become a chronic masturbator,” he explained.
But that wasn’t all. Yaw Siki described himself as a full-blown hedonist in Tema’s music scene — immersed in alcohol and marijuana.
“Yoo, I was a heavy drinker. Like I knew how to drink waa. When it came to alcohol, I knew how to drink paa. I also knew how to smoke waa. If you were looking for one of the artistes in Tema who knew how to smoke, I was one of them,” he confessed without hesitation.
He made it clear that he’s not sharing his past out of shame or guilt but as a testimony of change.
“I’m not ashamed to say it now because they are no more. They won’t be embarrassed by it,” he said, affirming his detachment from his old life.
