I Was told I could never carry a child—Gifty Anti

Ghanaian broadcaster Oheneyere Gifty Anti has opened up about her emotional journey to motherhood, revealing that she was told by doctors that she would never be able to carry a child.
In an interview on Family Forum Africa monitored by MyNewsGh, she shared how she struggled with fertility issues, endured multiple failed IVF attempts, and eventually welcomed her first child after years of uncertainty.
Gifty Anti disclosed that she had always loved children and feared she might never have her own. Before marriage, she explored various options, including surrogacy and adoption. “I knew that whatever it takes, I was going to have a child,” she said.
However, her journey was far from easy. Medical examinations revealed issues with her fallopian tubes, leading to an excruciating procedure to flush them.
“It was one of the most painful treatments I had to go through,” she recalled. Despite undergoing four rounds of IVF—both in Ghana and abroad—none were successful.
“At a point, I gave up. A doctor even told me, ‘Gifty, I don’t think you can carry a child.’ That was it for me. I settled for the fact that it was impossible,” she admitted.
Even after she got married, she was upfront with her husband about her condition. “I told him, ‘Look, I may never be able to carry a child,’” she said. But he remained supportive and encouraged her to keep the faith.
Surprisingly, hope was reignited after a different medical procedure. A doctor who treated her for an unrelated condition encouraged her to try again.
“He told me, ‘Your womb is fine. I believe you can carry a child.’ That was what made me give it one last shot.”
This time, everything changed. Gifty credits the power of faith, support from her husband, and a dedicated team of doctors for her eventual success.
“During the process, my husband sent me a gospel song and said, ‘Keep listening, keep praying, and trust God.’ That gave me so much strength.”
At an age many considered too risky for pregnancy, Gifty defied the odds and welcomed her daughter. “I was told it was impossible, but I carried my baby myself. God had the final say,” she said with gratitude.
