I’m not desperate for an award – Piesie Esther replies George Quaye
Gospel Musician Piesie Esther says she is not desperate to win Artiste of the Year award at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) as some people want it to look like.
The musician in the last few weeks to the grand event has received massive campaign support from other Gospel musicians across the country including Joe Mettle who is also in the same category.
But, renowned media and entertainment personality, George Nii Armah Quaye, in a controversial comment on the ongoing campaign by the Gospel fraternity said Gospel musicians are influencing the VGMA Board for Piesie Esther to win the coveted award.
However, responding to the claim, on Power FM in an interview, Piesie Esther categorically stated that, the claim by George Quaye cannot be acceptable adding that, she is not desperate for an award.
“We are doing this to show concerns that we are impressed with what is going on and we would be happy if we win it. But the way he said it, looks as if we are desperate to win. Trust me, I’m not desperate I must win the award by hook or crook.” Piesie Esther said.
According to her, she believes God has already given the award to her spiritually.
She further indicated that the campaign is also a way to spread the Gospel through her music, especially in areas where people may not have heard of her.
For the Artist of the Year category at the VGMA, Piesie Esther competes with musicians like Black Sherif, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, King Promise, Camidoh, KiDi and Joe Mettle.
She is currently enjoying massive airplay on both traditional media and social media with her song “Wa Ye Me Yie” which has also won her seven nominations at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs).
