I’m the first person who did a song with Stonebwoy – Kwaw Kese on mentoring young talent
Rapper Kwaw Kese offered a rare glimpse into the inner workings of the Ghanaian music industry during an interview with Giovani Caleb on Showbiz 360 monitored by MyNewsGh.
Beyond his trademark bravado, the rapper discussed nurturing talent, financial realities in music, and the importance of investing in the next generation of artists.
“I’m the first person who did a song with Stonebwoy. Not once, we did first and second songs… my song blew up Stonebwoy,” he recalled.
He shared similar mentorship stories with Opanka and Adam, highlighting his early role in shaping Ghana’s music landscape.
Kwaw Kese didn’t shy away from the realities of money in the industry.
“The money that our industry covers is not that much. Very few musicians really live that life,” he explained.
He emphasized the need for investment in local talent, drawing parallels to Nigeria’s booming music scene. “Imagine money pumping into Ghanaian musicians… nobody can stop us.”
The veteran artist also touched on the “fake it till you make it” culture, urging fans to understand the distinction between image and reality.
“Sometimes we paint a picture to tell people we have it all… but the money doesn’t wash through every musician,” he said.
