Israel Laryea beams with pride as son returns from US with special gift
Award-winning Ghanaian journalist Israel Laryea has shared a heartwarming story about a recent encounter with his son who lives in the United States.
The post, shared on his social media page and sighted by MyNewsGh, captured what he described as a “parent’s proud moment”,one that goes beyond material gifts to symbolize maturity, gratitude, and love.
According to Laryea, his son Cheyne (Afotey) was sent to the US several months before starting college so he could learn independence.
During that period, he stayed with his aunt and took up a job, experiences that helped him develop discipline, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
But it was what happened upon his return home that moved the veteran broadcaster the most.
“With his first earnings, he didn’t come empty-handed, but bought gifts for the whole family,” Laryea shared. “He got me the shirt in the photo plus two others (not my usual style, but now my favorite!).”
The proud father said the gesture was more than just an act of generosity.
“This gesture, his ‘first fruit,’ means more than the gift itself.
“It’s a symbol of his love, responsibility, and the wonderful man he is becoming. God bless you, Afotey,” he wrote.
Adding a humorous twist, Laryea revealed that his son later confessed the choice of shirt was intentional.
“He has since confessed, the style of the shirt was his attempt to ‘GenZify’ me. I no bore,” he added with a laugh.
The journalist ended his reflection with a prayer for other parents: “And to the rest of you, may your children do it for you too.”
