It is disrespectful for mainstream artistes to snub regional award schemes
Ayesem known in private life as Stephen Kwabena Siaw, a Takoradi-born musician, has replied those who say he should no longer participate in the Western Music Awards.
He said in an interview sighted by MyNewsGh.com “That’s the mistake that when someone says that would have done because first of all this is where I’m coming from and I need to represent so that people know that I’m proud of my roots”.
In a one-on-one interview with Amansan Krakye, Ayesem said it is disrespectful for mainstream artistes to shun awards scheme organized in their region of birth.
He remarked “There’s nothing like growing beyond where you are coming from and to me leaving such a prestigious awards like this from your own people or where you are coming from to me it is disrespectful,”
“Because you can’t tell me that the likes of KODA and other big artistes from the region likes of the late C.K Mann have been awarded under this same prestigious award,” he added on Cape Coast-based Kastle FM.
“So you can’t tell me that I’ve grown beyond this award then to me it is disrespectful because I’ve always said that even when I win the Grammys I will still file for the Western Music Awards,” he concluded on the show.
