It was my destiny – Akuapem Poloo on why she converted to Islam
Ghanaian actress and socialite Rosemond Brown, popularly known as Akuapem Poloo, has opened up about her decision to embrace Islam and the transformation it has brought to her life.
Speaking on TV3’s Showbiz 360 with Giovani Caleb monitored by MyNewsGh, she revealed that her conversion to Islam three years ago marked the beginning of a new phase of peace, modesty, and purpose.
“Islam has always been part of my destiny,” she shared. “Even as a child growing up in Suhum, most of my friends were Muslims. My grandfather, a Jehovah’s Witness, didn’t allow me to convert then, but I always felt drawn to the faith.”
Poloo, who now goes by the name Rosemond Hani a name she says means “joy, laughter, and happiness”, believes her spiritual journey was long overdue.
“I always want to be happy. That’s why I smile and laugh a lot,” she said, her trademark cheer shining through her new veil.
Despite her fame for bold fashion and candid social media antics, Rosemond explained that modesty now defines her life.
“Even if you put religion aside, as a woman, you must cover yourself. It’s about dignity,” she emphasized. “I’m still allowed to use social media, but not to insult or hurt people. Those days, I used to go hard, but now, I know better.”
The actress has also maintained her acting career, citing recent roles alongside Juliet Ibrahim and Yvonne Nelson. “I’m still in the industry,” she smiled. “Just with more discipline and direction.”
For Rosemond, faith hasn’t only brought spiritual fulfillment but also professional renewal. “Since I converted, I’ve had even more brands working with me,” she said. “It’s like blessings keep flowing.”
