Landlord’s daughter speaks out after tenant turns family home into bar and lounge
The daughter of a landlord whose home was allegedly converted into a bar and nightclub without permission has broken her silence on the shocking situation that has taken social media by storm.
In a viral video, the young woman, speaking with an American accent, explained that her mother had poured her entire retirement savings into renovating their family home in Osu, Accra. The property, she noted, was originally an old-fashioned house, but her mother had it modernized to keep up with the times.
However, unbeknownst to them, their tenant took things further—far beyond what was agreed. “He repainted the whole house, tore down some rooms, built new ones, and even added a swimming pool and bar,” she revealed, expressing disbelief at the level of unauthorized modifications.
She recalled an incident where the tenant’s security personnel allegedly blocked her family from entering their own property. “We tried to go in to see what was happening, but the security at the gate wouldn’t let us. At that point, we had no idea the extent of what was going on inside,” she said.
The shocking reality only hit her when a friend unknowingly invited her to a housewarming party—at her own mother’s house. “That was how I found out. My own friend sent me an invite to a party, and when I got there, I realized it was my mother’s house,” she recounted.
The issue escalated when the landlord discovered that the tenant had not only transformed the house into a commercial establishment but had also stopped paying rent. After several failed attempts to reach the tenant, the authorities got involved, leading to his arrest.
Videos shared on X (formerly Twitter) revealed that the tenant had turned the residence into a fully operational bar, lounge, and nightclub known as ‘Chez Toi.’ The establishment’s Instagram bio described it as featuring a restaurant, apartments, and a lounge.
As the controversy unfolds, many on social media have expressed outrage over the situation, calling for strict legal action. The landlord’s daughter remains hopeful that justice will be served and her mother’s home restored.
