My story is strange – Ayisi breaks down the viral success of ‘Can I live’

What do you do when a song you released years ago suddenly becomes a national obsession? You breathe. You perform.

And you accept the strange beauty of unpredictability—at least, that’s what Ghanaian singer Ayisi is doing.

“‘Can I Live’ was released 2022 on the Unbroken album… last track,” Ayisi told Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime.

Initially, the song did little in terms of traction. It stayed under the radar until a live version, performed with P Wizzle and the Q Live Band, brought it roaring back to life.

“After I did the live version… it’s like it’s a new song. It was released, but it never blew. For one year, it was sleeping.”

Now, three years later, the song is everywhere—from WhatsApp statuses to viral reels.

“The next morning… it’s just everywhere I could think. I’m like ‘Ah but it’s the same song!’”

The secret sauce? According to fans, it wasn’t just the voice—it was the visual authenticity.

“The feedback was: ‘Well now it’s live. We can see you sitting there, singing it with the band.’”

Even his hairstyle played a role in his newfound attention.

“Your hair did the magic as well,” Roselyn teased, to which Ayisi laughed and credited his stylist Mina.

With a new single “Can I Live” finally getting the love it deserves, Ayisi remains open to new creative energy:

“I should stay open to new vibes… I’m not the same person. So I think I should express who I am now.”
