Nigerian TV journalist Bukola Agbakaizu dies while on duty

Seasoned journalist Bukola Agbakaizu who works with Ogun State Television (OGTV) has reportedly collapsed and died while on duty in Abeokuta on Monday, May 12, 2025.
Agbakaizu, 52, was preparing for her afternoon bulletin when she suddenly slumped at the station.
Despite efforts to revive her and a rushed attempt to get her medical attention, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Federal Medical Centre.
Her untimely death has sparked grief and shock within media circles, especially among colleagues who recall her unwavering commitment to journalism and unionism.
Agbakaizu was an active member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), where she served as the Vice Chairperson of the OGTV Chapel and also held a position as an ex-officio member of the chapel’s current executive.
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) paid tribute to her, describing her as a trailblazer who remained dedicated to her craft and to the welfare of women in journalism.
She is survived by her two children and her elderly mother, who now mourn the loss of a woman whose voice resonated in many homes through her broadcasts.
