No Nigerian artist comes close
Business mogul and Chief Executive Officer of the McDan Group of Companies, Daniel McKorley, affectionately known as McDan, has waded into the ever-evolving conversation about musical dominance on the African continent—and his pick is bold.
In an interview with NY DJ on BTM Afrika, McDan didn’t mince words when he declared that Ghana’s very own Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale are unmatched in talent, even when compared to their Nigerian counterparts.
“I can tell you that Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy are some of the most talented artists in Africa. None of these Nigerian artists comes close to them, although they are also talented.
“Their (Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy) music and stage performances are amazing,” McDan said.
His comments reignite the age-old debate that has often placed Ghanaian and Nigerian music giants head-to-head.
While Nigerian artists like Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido have become household names across the globe, McDan’s remarks spotlight the consistent local and international impact of Ghanaian heavyweights Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale.
The two artistes, who have had their fair share of rivalry, remain central to Ghana’s music identity.
Stonebwoy, known for his Afrobeats and dancehall finesse, and Shatta Wale, a commanding presence in the dancehall space, have long dominated the local scene with a loyal fan base that spans beyond the borders of Ghana.
Though their feud once made headlines and even disrupted national events, the rivalry has also pushed both artists to higher levels of creativity and stagecraft.
McDan’s assertion highlights not just their artistry but their evolution into cultural icons whose performances continue to set the standard.
