Ogun Police reject Portable’s psychiatric claim, demand his surrender
Ogun State Police Command has reacted to claims by controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, that he is unwell and receiving treatment at a psychiatric hospital.
Recall that the Nigerian singer was declared wanted for allegedly assaulting state government officials.
In what appears to be an attempt to evade arrest, Portable released a video claiming he is mentally unwell and receiving treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, in Abeokuta.
His claim has, however, been swiftly rejected by the police, who insist that he must turn himself in for investigation.
Reacting to the situation, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Omolola Odutola, made it clear that the authorities would not be swayed by his statements.
She emphasized that his alleged presence in a psychiatric facility does not change the fact that he is a wanted man. “Portable will come and submit himself.
He cannot be in the psychiatric hospital in Aro. Everybody knows he is a wanted person. If he is in any facility, the police must be informed. He is a wanted man,” she stated firmly.
Portable’s troubles escalated after he was declared wanted on Monday, February 17, following accusations of a violent attack on government officials.
By the following day, February 18, he released a video claiming to be a “madman” undergoing treatment.
His erratic behaviour has often placed him in the spotlight, both as a rising music star and as a controversial figure who frequently engages in public altercations.
