Our parents didn’t want us to suffer, that’s why they chose careers for us – Bovi

Nigerian comedian Bovi has addressed the societal pressure parents place on children’s career choices.

He noted that while parents have good intentions, their fear of failure often pushes children into careers they may not be passionate about.

“Our parents didn’t want us to suffer. That’s why they forced us to be doctors, engineers, and bankers. It wasn’t about money but about respect and stability,” he explained on the Honest Brunch show monitored by MyNewsGh.

He highlighted how times have changed, with many parents now embracing football as a viable career path. “

Almost every parent I know is currently embarking on ‘Project Mbappé,’” he said, referring to how parents now encourage their children to pursue professional football.

Bovi shared a personal experience about his older brother, who was once discouraged from playing football. “My mother used to beat my brother because he was good at football. Now, thank God he’s comfortable, but imagine if he wasn’t,” he remarked.

Despite these pressures, Bovi believes life naturally balances itself. “Life will adjust to human beings. If someone is meant to be in football, they will find their place – whether as a player, coach, or scout,” he said.
