Papa Shee questions court processes in family dispute over Daddy Lumba’s funeral

Evangelist Papa Shee has expressed strong dissatisfaction with what he describes as inconsistent and confusing court processes in the ongoing family dispute over the funeral arrangements of the late highlife icon, Daddy Lumba.

Speaking in an interview, Papa Shee said the family he represents had no intention of independently organising a funeral, contrary to public speculation. According to him, their primary concern was to ensure peace within the extended family and to clarify certain issues surrounding the musician’s death before any final rites were held.

He recounted that the courts initially placed an injunction on the funeral in favour of the maternal side of the family. However, he claimed that the family’s lawyer was later contacted and informed that the ruling had shifted, requiring the other family to make certain payments before proceeding.

“We were not happy about this. I did not understand what was going on,” he said. “The back and forth seemed weird to me. I was wondering how Ghanaian courts ruled over cases. In an American court, when a judge gives a ruling, it is final. There’s no back and forth.”

Papa Shee explained that the maternal family’s wish had been to first restore peace among both sides, then conduct an autopsy to verify the exact cause of death, and finally wait for the arrival of the late musician’s children and his wife, Maame Akosua Serwaa, before any funeral arrangements were made.

He emphasised that the family still stands by its decision not to participate in the funeral scheduled for December 13, 2025.
