Post Malone’s ex drops custody case in LA, paving way for Utah court battle
A legal twist in the custody battle between singer Post Malone and his ex-fiancée has tilted the scales in his favor, as she has officially withdrawn her child custody case from a California court.
The Los Angeles filing, which came two days after Malone initiated proceedings in Utah, has now been dismissed—leaving the Utah court with full jurisdiction over the case involving their 3-year-old daughter, born in May 2022.
While the reason for the withdrawal wasn’t immediately disclosed, the move simplifies the dispute, eliminating competing legal claims in two different states. Utah, where Malone filed first, is now the sole venue for determining custody and support.
The rapper—real name Austin Richard Post—filed his petition in Utah on April 14, seeking joint custody and visitation rights. His ex-fiancée, Hee Sung “Jamie” Park, had filed for primary physical custody in Los Angeles on April 16, sparking a jurisdictional tug-of-war.
Legal analysts suggest Malone gains both procedural and financial advantage with the case now confined to Utah, where child support rulings are generally more modest compared to California.
Despite the legal wrangling, both parties have expressed a desire for shared legal custody of their daughter, referred to as “DDP” in court documents.
