Ras Kuuku declares ‘Wo’ the most iconic song in Ghana since 1999
Ras Kuuku has boldly proclaimed his 2018 hit song “Wo” as the most significant track of the past 20 years.
Speaking in an interview with Joy News, the award-winning artist reflected on the enduring impact of the song and the hurdles he overcame to solidify his legacy.
“This song, ‘Wo,’ is not just a track—it’s history. It has defined an era and solidified my place in the music industry,” Ras Kuuku declared, exuding pride.
Released in 2018, “Wo” quickly resonated with fans, becoming one of Ras Kuuku’s most notable works. Its catchy rhythms, powerful lyrics, and authentic sound struck a chord with audiences, propelling him to greater heights. However, the artist revealed that the song’s journey to success was far from smooth.
“Some people in the industry tried to kill the vibe. They didn’t want it to shine, but greatness can’t be buried,” Ras Kuuku shared, his voice tinged with defiance. “If not for those challenges, ‘Wo’ would have gone even further than it has. But look at it now—it’s still alive, still powerful.”
Despite the setbacks, “Wo” became an anthem, drawing fans from diverse backgrounds and securing its place as a timeless hit. For many, the song’s infectious energy and relatable themes symbolized resilience, echoing Ras Kuuku’s own journey in the music industry.
Reflecting on his career, Ras Kuuku emphasized the importance of staying true to one’s artistry despite external pressures. “This song is a testament to the fact that good music will always find its way. I put my heart into it, and that’s why it resonates with so many people.”
The artist’s claim has sparked discussions within the Ghanaian music space, with fans and industry stakeholders debating the impact of “Wo” compared to other major hits over the last two decades. Some agree with Ras Kuuku, citing the song’s enduring relevance and influence, while others point to the success of other iconic tracks from his contemporaries.
