Shatta Wale’s Jamaican performance propels billboard success
Shatta Wale’s 2022 hit track On God has made it onto Billboard’s Top Afrobeats Songs chart, sparking a broader conversation about the impact of strategic music performances on streaming success.
Ghanaian music executive Bra Bryt expressed his excitement about this achievement in an a social media post, noting the significance of Shatta Wale’s milestone.
“Ordinarily, I wouldn’t make a fuss about this, but this happens to be a special case,” he began.
“We hardly see the aftermath effect of the foreign shows our acts play. So for Shatta Wale, an artiste tagged as a local champion, to reach this height after a five-minute performance, it’s a big deal.”
Bra Bryt also emphasized the importance of curating performances with an understanding of target audiences.
“It shows the positive side of making thoughtful and insightful song selections for specific territories,” he added.
The buzz around On God follows Shatta Wale’s stellar performance at the Freedom Street Concert, hosted by dancehall icon Vybz Kartel in Kingston, Jamaica.
The event featured a star-studded lineup, including Spice and Busta Rhymes, and drew a massive crowd of music lovers.
During his five-minute set, Shatta Wale performed On God, captivating the audience with the song’s powerful lyrics and rhythm.
The aftermath? A surge in streams and downloads propelled the track to chart on one of the most prestigious platforms for Afrobeats music.
