Showboy challenges arrest attempt, insists police acted without warrant

Ghanaian musician, Showboy has denied rumours that he fled from the police during his arrest, insisting that no lawful arrest process was followed and that officers failed to meet basic legal requirements.

In a post on his Snapchat, the Ghanaian socialite said police officers entered his home while he was asleep and attempted to arrest him without presenting a warrant or clearly stating the specific offense.

“Police broke into my house while I was sleeping and said they wanted to arrest me,” he said.

“When I asked for the reason, they said it was for the publication of false news.”

According to Showboy, the officers could not explain what the alleged false publication was, even after repeated questioning.

“I asked them to tell me what false news I published, and they could not explain it,” he stated.

“My lawyer also asked them the same question, and they still could not say anything.”

He said he made it clear that he was not resisting arrest but insisted on due process.

“I told them to go to court in Tema and inform a judge that they wanted to arrest Showboy for publishing false news,” he said. “If a judge issued a warrant, I would go with them without any problem.”

Showboy further alleged that officers admitted they had no warrant and attempted to use his ID card as justification for the arrest.

“They said they had no warrant and that my ID card was the warrant,” he stated. “That is not how the law works.”

He also rejected claims that he attempted to escape from police custody.

“I did not flee from anywhere,” he said. “There was no lawful basis for my arrest, and that is the truth.”

Showboy concluded by warning that the matter would be pursued legally.

“All the officers involved should prepare their statements,” he said. “We will meet at PIPS on Monday, and on Tuesday we will file at the High Court.”
