Singer Efya calls for tougher punishment for rapists

Ghanaian singer Efya has called for stricter punishment for people who commit sexual violence, saying current penalties do not deter offenders enough.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Pidgin monitred by MyNewsGh, the award-winning artiste expressed concern about how abusers often escape severe consequences.

“People like they abuse them those things and then they rape them,” she said. “We forget some drastic punishments give the people where they do that.”

Efya questioned why some suspects are granted bail and allowed to walk freely despite serious allegations.
