Some people just want their comments to go viral – Strongman on trolls
Rapper Strongman has taken a swipe at the growing culture of online trolling, saying many of the people accusing him of doing “one-way” music are driven less by genuine concern and more by a desire for attention and virality.
Speaking strongly, he noted that the internet has become a space where people comment for reactions rather than the truth. “There are people who’ll just write anything because they want likes. Some just want their comments to go viral,” he said.
Strongman revealed that he often spends time reading comment sections under posts made by other artists’ new releases. This, he said, has shown him that negativity spreads faster online than honesty or musical appreciation. “When I’m home doing nothing, I go under people’s posts and read the comments. And funny enough, some of the people calling artists ‘one-way’ write the same ‘one-way’ comments all the time,” he said with a laugh.
He emphasised that every public figure, no matter how talented or diverse, has faced similar criticism. “Even Sarkodie gets the same feedback. King Paluta too. It’s just how the internet works,” he stated.
Strongman argued that the pressure to constantly “switch styles” is mostly driven by the social media environment, not by real fans. Real supporters, he said, understand the journey, growth, and evolution of an artist.
He reassured fans, however, that while criticism doesn’t shake him, he still pays close attention to constructive feedback. “As and when we need to switch, we know. We’ll do the needful.”
According to him, trolls will always exist, but true musicians must stay focused. “We all have our style. The goal is to preserve it, not to bend every time someone wants attention.”
