Sons of Yaw Sarpong dismiss rumours of neglect surrounding their father’s final days
The sons of late gospel musician Yaw Sarpong have firmly dismissed circulating rumours suggesting their mother neglected their father during his period of illness.
Speaking on Angel FM in Kumasi, the family sought to set the record straight, insisting that their mother remained devoted to the celebrated musician until his final breath.
“Our mother never left our dad on his sickbed. She was present throughout until he died,” the sons emphasised.
They acknowledged that, as children, they shared a particularly strong bond with their father, largely due to their close involvement in his work and ministry. However, they stressed that this did not diminish the love within the family.
“We were closer to our father more than our mother, but we love them both,” one of the sons explained. “I started working with my father right after SHS, so there was a greater bond between us and him.”
Despite that closeness, they were unequivocal about their mother’s role during the difficult period of illness.
“Our mother was always there for our father. They were very close,” they stated. “She was very active during the ailing period of our father.”
Addressing controversies surrounding a media appearance of their mother, the sons expressed regret over certain developments.
“We wished she did not go to Oyerepa,” they added, hinting at concerns about how public discussions may have contributed to misunderstandings or speculation”.
But we understand our mother because sometimes we make decisions we later regret when we are in distress.
