Taste is personal - MC Portfolio reacts to IShowSpeed’s jollof verdict

Publicist and entertainment pundit MC Portfolio has weighed in on the growing debate over Ghana and Nigeria jollof, following popular American streamer IShowSpeed’s recent comments during his much-publicized tour.

In a post shared on X, MC Portfolio defended Ghana’s food culture and businesses, insisting that taste is personal and should not be judged by one individual’s preference.

“Everybody get ein taste bud and how it responds to taste,” he wrote. “I like Chickenman and Pizzaman Ghana jollof because of how spicy it is. The same recipe to a non-spice person will not be a great taste.”

His comments came after IShowSpeed declared that Nigerian jollof was better than Ghana’s.

MC Portfolio argued that the streamer’s opinion should not be treated as a standard.

“We are not going to change the taste of Chickenman that we all enjoy because one 21-year-old American streamer decides for over 30 million people what good jollof is,” he stated.

He also compared the food debate to other moments during Speed’s tour, suggesting that personal preferences do not make someone an authority.

“Just like how he wasn’t overly enthused about the car collection he saw, it doesn’t mean he is the validator of what a good jollof or car is,” he added.

The media personality further pointed to the strong public reaction to the food tasting episode as proof of how deeply Ghanaians value their jollof.

“The Ghanaians who were fighting over the big pot know that’s how we like it,” he said. “Hence the ambush over the food.”

MC Portfolio ended his post by reaffirming his support for local food brands, praising their consistency and impact.

“Pizzaman and Chickenman still stand tall as one of the best to have come out of Ghana,” he wrote. “We stand with Chickenman jollof.”
