This is not love, it’s obsession – TV host criticizes 2Baba’s new relationship
Love, commitment, and the idea of staying through thick and thin in relationships have long been debated, especially when high-profile figures are involved.
Nigerian music legend Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba is at the center of such a conversation—this time concerning his new relationship with Natasha Osawaru.
TV personality and career coach, Obiajulu Olabisi Ugboh, did not hold back while addressing the situation on TV Continental’s breakfast show, Your View.
According to her, what many perceive as love is often just an unhealthy attachment.
“I wouldn’t have called this a marriage because I can be in a relationship with you, and you are busy dropping children outside, and I am still loving you.
“I know craze. I wouldn’t have stayed, right? But she stayed through it all. She saw the red flags, the red sea—not even. 2Face is a walking red sea, not even a red flag,” she remarked.
Her criticism stems from 2Baba’s history of infidelity, which has been a public topic for years. His former partner, Annie Idibia, endured years of controversies regarding his affairs and children born outside their marriage. To Ugboh, expecting the musician to suddenly change was unrealistic.
“She saw the Red Sea before she decided to tie the knot with him. Was she expecting him to change overnight? We need to understand that men don’t change.
“They get worse with age. So the package you get from the beginning, you ask yourself, am I ready to deal with this?“
Ugboh also delved into the broader societal issue of women choosing to stay in complicated relationships despite glaring red flags.
She referenced past generations of women who stayed in toxic marriages, often focusing on their children, careers, or self-love instead of demanding change from their partners.
“I remember the first time we talked about that, Nima was saying that we’ve had mothers who stayed. They know that this one is a mad person.
“I focus on self-love, I focus on my children, I focus on my business, and I mind my business. Do you have the capacity to stay? That’s the question you should be asking yourself.”
However, for Ugboh, enduring a problematic relationship should never be confused with love. In her words, true love cannot come from a place of emptiness.
“But this is not love. It’s not love. It’s obsession. You cannot give what you do not have. You cannot love somebody from an empty place. You have to be full to be able to give true love. You have to have loved yourself.”
