Tory Lanez hospitalized after violent prison attack during 10-year sentence
Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was reportedly rushed to a hospital after being viciously attacked in prison.
The incident, which took place on the morning of May 12, 2025, at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, left the rapper with multiple stab wounds.
According to reports, Lanez was ambushed by a fellow inmate during morning yard time and sustained as many as 14 stab wounds to his back, face, head, and torso.
The attack was so severe that both of his lungs collapsed, prompting authorities to act swiftly. He was airlifted to a hospital in Bakersfield, where he received emergency treatment. Fortunately, he is now in stable condition and reportedly breathing on his own.
Lanez is currently serving a 10-year sentence following his conviction in the 2020 shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion.
Despite maintaining his innocence throughout the trial, he was found guilty on three felony counts, including assault with a semiautomatic firearm and negligent discharge of a firearm.
The motive behind the brutal assault remains unclear. Prison officials have launched an investigation, with both the prison’s Investigative Services Unit and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office looking into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Even while behind bars, Lanez has remained active musically. His latest album, Peterson, released from prison in 2025, reached number 25 on the US Billboard 200—proof that his voice continues to resonate beyond the prison walls.
Authorities are yet to release details about the inmate responsible for the attack, but questions are already being raised about prison security and the safety of high-profile inmates.
