TV stations don’t operate with/under “licence”-Kafui Danku schooled

Francis Doku, who is a big name in the travel industry, has schooled Kafui Danku on issues bothering television licensing, among others.
It will be remembered that a statement from the National Film Authority indicated that television stations that telecast people’s content without their consent stand the risk of losing their license.
But in a post on social media, Francis Doku schooled the executive director of the Authority on the matter.
His post read, “For the sake of public education, let me touch on a few things:
1. TV stations don’t operate with/under “licence”. They do so under “authorisation”
2. The NCA issues spectrum “licence” to telcos and “authorisation” to operate to broadcast (radio/TV) companies.
3. The NFA doesn’t license or authorise TV stations. It is not clothed with that mandate.
Summary: You cannot revoke a licence that does not exist and you did not issue.
Piracy is a real challenge in a jurisdiction where people give very little or no respect for intellectual property. However, there are more ways the NFA can work with other state agencies and GIBA and the television stations to curb piracy, but “licence” revocation is not one of them.
Thank you.
