Until Wizkid fights government, he's not on Fela's level

Media personality Daddy Freeze has weighed into the ongoing debate about comparing Wizkid to Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, saying such comparisons are misplaced.

His comments come after Seun Kuti criticized fans for likening Wizkid to his late father, Fela. Wizkid later fired back on social media, responding to Seun’s remarks.

Reacting to the issue, Daddy Freeze stressed that Fela’s impact went far beyond music.

“Until Wizkid is ready to stand up and go and carry stone and stone government, not with music, with free stone, then we can talk,” he said.

He recalled Fela’s sacrifices and struggles with the state.

“Do you know Fela was released from prison just so he would not die there?” Daddy Freeze asked. “They saw that this prison, if this guy pays, he will turn up raw. That is why they released him.”

According to him, Fela was not just an entertainer but a freedom fighter.

“Fela put his skin in the game,” he said. “He would have fought in prison. Fela was not a troublemaker. Fela was a freedom fighter.”

Daddy Freeze explained that Fela’s music cannot be separated from his activism.

“The agitation and the music went hand in hand,” he stated. “You cannot separate the two. The moment you try to do that, you are rigging the game.”

He concluded by saying Fela went to jail while fighting for the rights of Nigerians, a sacrifice that should not be ignored when discussing his legacy.
