We don’t have prosperity, but we have prosperity preachers -Daddy Freeze

Popular Nigerian media personality and social critic, Daddy Freeze, has shared candid remarks about religion, marriage, and personal struggles.

Appearing on Chude Jideonwo’s YouTube show, the outspoken broadcaster opened up on issues ranging from the hypocrisy in Nigeria’s religious space to his early marriage and strained relationship with his children.

“We don’t have the prosperity, but we have prosperity preachers,” he began pointedly, criticizing the commercialization of faith among some Nigerian pastors.

“God is working in your pastor’s life. Is he working in yours? Christ is looking at Nigeria and cursing us the way he’s cursing the fig tree,” Daddy Freeze added, expressing frustration over what he described as misplaced religious priorities in the country.

During the candid conversation, the OAP also delved into his personal life, revealing that he married young and under circumstances he now views differently.

“You said you got married because she already had a baby,” Chude asked. Daddy Freeze admitted, “If she wasn’t pregnant, I’m not sure I would have gotten married. I married at 24. She was 22.”

He went on to speak about the challenges that followed his divorce, which he says affected his professional life and family relationships.

“I lost a lot of jobs because of the divorce in my current marriage. I’ve never slapped my wife before.

“I’ve never beaten her. So it was tough for me. That means that the children must see you as a devil,” he said emotionally.

Freeze also shared that he has not seen his children in more than seven years, a situation that continues to trouble him deeply.

“Yeah,” he confirmed when asked about the long separation. “I don’t understand it. How is that possible?”

Reflecting on his past, he admitted that stubbornness on both sides contributed to the breakdown of his first marriage.

“Me and my ex are very stubborn people,” he said. “She will not hear, I will not hear. You guys married very young, at the age of 24.”
