We reconnected after years apart
In a heartfelt reflection on his personal life and career journey, Nigerian actor and comedian Okey Bakassi shared the inspiring story of how he met his wife and the profound impact she has had on his life on the Honest Brunch podcast.
“When I had nothing, she didn’t care. She believed in me even when I was just starting out,” Okey said, his voice filled with gratitude as he recalled their early days together.
Okey, who has become a household name for his wit and charm, confessed that his rise to success was not without its challenges.
Early in his career, financial stability was uncertain, and the pressures of the entertainment industry took a toll. It was during these tough times that a pivotal conversation with a woman he was considering dating shifted his entire perspective.
As fate would have it, Okey’s decision to rethink his relationship choices led him back to his university days, where he reconnected with a former girlfriend who had recently returned from Canada.
“We had met during school, and even back then, she believed in me,” he said. Despite his financial struggles and career uncertainties, she stood by him.
Okey’s wife, now his steadfast partner, accepted him unconditionally, even when he was still trying to make a name for himself.
“She didn’t care about the money. She cared about who I was as a person,” he shared with a smile. With her by his side, Okey not only found love but also the anchor he needed to navigate both personal and professional challenges. Together, they built a life founded on mutual trust and support.
