Nigerian author, pastor, and relationship expert Dr Olumide Emmanuel shared has valuable insights about the financial dynamics in marriages, particularly concerning how couples prepare for weddings.

During his appearance on the Honest Brunch podcast monitored by MyNewsGh, he shed light on a common yet overlooked truth: “Did you know that many of our mothers were the ones financing our fathers?

“They were the ones paying the bills, even though we were told it was our fathers who did it. They would say, ‘Your daddy has paid your school fees, so thank him,’ but it was really our mothers who brought in the money.”

He further emphasized the importance of focusing on the long-term aspect of marriage rather than just the wedding day.

“Wedding is for a day, but marriage is for a lifetime,” he said. He explained how many people prepare extensively for the wedding, but fail to properly prepare for the actual marriage. “Wedding is just a one-day event. After that, what else?

You spend all the money, with no investment or plan for the future. Then, you complain about problems like witches and wizards, when in reality, it’s your own choices that have led to your struggles.”
