Rapper Yaw Tog has come to the defense of artists who sell their music catalogs, arguing that such decisions are part of a larger financial strategy rather than acts of desperation or failure.

The Sore hitmaker questioned the backlash some musicians face when they decide to sell their publishing or recording rights, insisting that the ultimate goal of any artist is to generate income and reinvest it wisely.

“I don’t know why people are bashing those selling their catalogs. What’s your problem? The goal is to get money and invest again,” he told Kula in an interview on his podcast as monitred by MyNewsGh.

“You invest in a project, sell it to do another project or do something for yourself — people shouldn’t question that.”

Yaw Tog, who is preparing to release his latest album Talk City on October 17, emphasized that the music business should be treated like any other investment space, where asset liquidation is part of long-term sustainability.

His comment comes at a time when global music icons such as Justin Bieber and Katy Perry have sold parts of their catalogs for millions of dollars, sparking mixed reactions among fans and critics who argue over creative ownership versus financial gain.
