When I spoke to her, she’s shifting towards 10 kilo – Davido reveals Chioma’s favourite track from 5ive
Afrobeats has become a global force, and at the helm of this movement is Davido, an artist whose influence extends far beyond the borders of Africa.
With his signature sound and charismatic presence, Davido has shaped the genre and earned his place as one of the most celebrated musicians of his generation.
His journey from Omo Baba Olowo to his latest album, 5ive, reflects both his personal growth and the evolution of Afrobeats itself.
Davido’s career began with Omo Baba Olowo, his debut album in 2012, which introduced the world to his fusion of Afrobeats, hip-hop, and Nigerian pop.
This album laid the foundation for his rise, with tracks like Dami Duro quickly becoming hits across Africa.
As he continued to rise in popularity, he released The Baddest in 2016, a project that solidified his place in the Afrobeats pantheon, with anthems like If and FIA further expanding his fanbase.
But it was A Good Time, released in 2019, that truly propelled Davido onto the international stage.
The album’s collaborations with global stars like Chris Brown, Summer Walker, and Gunna opened new doors for the Afrobeats genre, while tracks like Fall and Blow My Mind found massive success both within and outside Africa.
Now, with the release of 5ive in 2025, Davido continues to break new ground. The album features 17 tracks, including collaborations with Grammy award-winning artists such as Victoria Monét and Chris Brown, marking a significant step in his already illustrious career.
Upon its release, 5ive debuted at number 2 on the World Albums chart, securing 7,000 equivalent album units in its first week, which is a testament to Davido’s growing global influence.
But 5ive is more than just a musical project. It’s a testament to the deep personal connection Davido shares with his wife, Chioma, who played a pivotal role during the album’s creation.
Throughout the recording process, Chioma was not only a source of emotional support but a driving force behind his motivation.
In a recent interview, Davido expressed his gratitude for her unwavering presence, acknowledging the energy she provided during the long and often exhausting hours in the studio.
“Shoutout to Chioma. When I was recording the album, she was around and gave me the energy to work,” he said, reflecting on the strength she brought to his creative process.
